Shelflife (USA) and Discos de Kirlian (Spain) present the new six track EP from Spain's When Nalda Became Punk entitled Those Words Broke Our Hearts coming March 10th on limited edition 10" vinyl and digital formats.
Elena Sestelo started the group as a solo project in 2006. She self-released some lovely digital singles (one under the name Nalda) and also took part in Bubbletone Discos digital singles club. In 2011, the group expanded into a duo with Roberto Cibeira joining in. That summer they released their debut 7" for theme song "When Nalda Became Punk" on UK indie pop label Pebble Records. During 2012 the band played several shows, including the Madrid Popfest and recorded their debut album, A Farewell to Youth. As the previous single, it was produced and recorded by Eva Guilala and Ivan Juniper from the Spanish band Linda Guilala at their Kaiju Studios (Vigo, Spain) and was mixed and produced by Ian Catt (producer of Saint Etienne, The Field Mice, The School, The Proctors, etc). The album was released by Shelflife Records at the beginning of 2013. Also in 2013, Antonio Llarena joined the band and they played several shows, including Indietracks Festival in the United Kingdom. At the beginning of 2014, the band released a new single Indiepop or Whatever! on 7" vinyl for Shelflife Records and Bruno Murmura joined the band, completing the actual formation of WNBP. After that, they toured with it in Spain, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.
Now the band is ready to release Those Words Broke Our Hearts the new EP recorded and produced in Vigo (Spain) again by Bruno Murmura. "Hanging Out With Imogen", the first single from the mini-LP, is a pure-pop song filled with energetic jangly guitars and bittersweet synths. "Long before" takes us into that kind of sadness and melancholy that impregnates the albums from Sarah Records. On the other hand, "Big Whoop" and its uplifting guitar lines and vocal harmonies, is full of light and hope. "New Year’s Day", with its catchy synth chorus, brings back the nostalgic feeling that sometimes hits you at the end and start of another year. "Angela" is a direct, immediate pop song, about the teenage anxiety of trying to live for the moment and don’t spoil any second of life. "A Midnight Run" closes the mini-LP, a spoken word song with hypnotic music and a story narrated by the deep voice of Edward Forth from the English indiepop band Finmark.
When Nalda Became Punk continue to lead the new chapter of brilliant Spanish bands and we're pleased to help bring their music to the world.
